Daily Itinerary


Week 1, July 2 - 6  
Line; Gesture; Negative Space; Figure Drawing; Construction and Perspective.
Monday 2
10-12: Orientation at Parsons the New School in Paris
1-4: Figure drawing at Parsons the New School in Paris studio
Bring:  Sketch book; Charcoal paper pad (white paper); drawing board & clips; pencils; charcoal; erasers.
Assignment set:  Portrait of a fellow student, done in a cafe in Paris.

Tuesday 3
9-10.00: Line drawing at Parc de Champs de Mars, Eiffel Tower
10.30 - 4: Figure Drawing at the Musee Rodin
Bring:  Newsprint; charcoal paper pad (white paper); drawing board & clips; pencils; charcoal (all kinds); erasers.
Assignment set:  Measured drawing of a Rodin sculpture
Assignment due:  Cafe portrait.

Wednesday 4
10.00 -12.30:  Drawing at the Musee D’Orsay
1.30 - 4 .30 Gesture drawing on the Quais at the River Seine.
Bring: Sketchbook; pencils; ballpoint pens/micron felt pens; erasers; 4 sheets Charcoal or Bristol paper; watercolor tubes (Burnt Siena and Indigo – or similar) brushes; sealable container for water.
Assignment set:  Gesture/line and wash drawings.

Thursday 5  
9-12: Perspective drawing at Place des Vosges
1-3 Perspective contd. 
3 -4 Visit Musee Carnavalet
Bring:  Same as yesterday
Assignment due: Gesture/line and wash drawings.
Weekend assignment set:  Paris street-scene in perspective.  
Alternative independent study assignment also possible on discussion with Kate Teale.

Friday 6
9-12: Figure drawing 
1-4: Figure drawing and critique
Bring:  Charcoal paper; ink; brushes; sticks; all charcoals, erasers, masking tape, collaging materials (various papers, scissors, craft knife, glue etc.) and materials of your choice for long drawing.
Bring:  All Assignments done so far due:  
Assignment:  Weekend assignment (as above)

Week 2, July 9 - 13  
Value (light and dark); modeling; composition.
Monday 9 
9-4: Value study at The Louvre
Bring:   Sketch books; several sheets of charcoal paper; pencils, charcoal pencils; conte crayons; 
Assignment set:  Completion of value study of painting started at the Louvre

Tuesday 10
Jardin Luxembourg, Fontaine de Medicis. 
9-12: Discussion and Introduction to value.  Ink.  
1-4: Ink drawing.
Bring:  Sketchbook; several sheets of Bristol paper; Sumi or other permanent black drawing ink, pens and brushes, at least 5 small sealable pots for water, paper towel.
Assignment set:  Night drawing in value.

Wednesday 11
Special lecture/project with Chloe Briggs, British artist living in Paris and Chair of Foundation, EPaP/PC
Visit Jardin du Palais Royal
‘Dejeuner Sur L’Herbe’ pic nic at Parc Bercy

Thursday 12
9-12: Value and perspective.  Pere LaChaise cemetery.
1-4: continued.
Bring:  Ink; pens; brushes; Bristol or Stonehenge paper; watercolor paper, viewfinder, any other materials you want
Assignment set:  Completion and preparation of all work for presentation

Friday 13
9-12: Final Critique and set up for exhibition.  
Bring: ALL work done over the course, and sketch books. 
1 - 3: Hanging and Final Exhibition of Student Work
